Categories
A category is a group of courses that belong to one team — Worship, Volunteer Onboarding, Leadership, and so on. Categories give you a way to split course ownership so each team manages its own training without stepping on the rest of the org.
Who can see and do what
- Admins — can see and edit every course in every category, create new categories, and manage members.
- Creators — can only see and edit courses in the categories they belong to. Add a Creator to a category to give them ownership over that team's courses.
- Learners — categories don't affect learners directly. They see every course they've been assigned, regardless of which category owns it.
The default category
Every organization has one default category (labeled with a "Default" badge on the Settings → Categories page). New courses are assigned to the default category unless you pick another when creating them. You can change which category is the default at any time using the category's action menu.
The default category can't be archived. If you want to retire it, pick another category as the default first.
Adding a category
- Go to Settings → Categories.
- Click New category.
- Give it a name (e.g. "Worship Team") and an optional description, then save.
- Open the new category's row and add Admins or Creators who should own courses in that category.
Moving a course to a different category
Open the course's Overview tab. If your org has more than one category, a Category picker appears in the settings grid. Pick a different category and the change saves immediately. Creators can only move a course into a category they already belong to.
Archiving a category
Archiving a category removes it from the category picker so new courses can't be assigned to it, but it doesn't touch courses that are already there — they stay in place, still editable by the same people. You can restore an archived category at any time from the Archived categories section on the Categories page.
Plan availability
Categories are available on the Equip plan and above. On Starter plans, every course belongs to your org's single default category and the picker is hidden.
